Ken Ulman Ken Ulman was elected Howard County Executive in November 2006. Before he became County Executive, Ken was an attorney and also a member of the County Council representing District 4. Voters elect a County Executive every four years. The Executive is limited to two terms (eight years). The next election for County Executive will be in 2010. As County Executive, Ken proposes and administers budgets which determine how the government spends its money. He also carries out policies established by legislation and works with the state and other local governments located in our region. Ken is active in the community, especially in the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, founded by his family after his brother Doug was diagnosed with cancer. Ken and his wife Jacqueline live in Howard County with their daughters Madeline and Lily. FAVORITES Color : Blue WHEN YOU WERE A KID... What did you want to be when you grew up?...a firefighter

What was your favorite subject in school?...I enjoyed social studies
What was the best present you ever received?...A basketball
What was your favorite game or toy?...Legos and anything to do with basketball
NOW THAT YOU'RE OLDER... Do you have a pet?...No, unfortunately I am allergic to most pets. Why did you choose this career?...I wanted to give back to the community which gave me so much while growing up here.
What do you like best about your job?...I really enjoy working with people to help them through challenging times.
What is the worst part of your job?...The amount of time I have to spend being away from my daughters.
What would people be most surprised to learn about you?...I was one of the first babies born at Howard County General Hospital.
Who is your hero today and why?...My mom is still my hero because she always acts the way she believes is right.
What is the best advice that you would share with a child?...Try new things, explore, and embrace the things that make us different.
