District 2

Calvin was elected to the Howard County Council in November 2006 by the citizens of District 2. On December 4, 2006, Calvin was elected Chairperson of the Howard County Council in a brief legislative session held in Ellicott City after the installation of the newly elected County Council members.

As one of five County Council members, Calvin works to enact county laws, authorize the budget, and help citizens in Council District 2, solve problems. Calvin's district is one of five different areas each represented by a different County Council members. To see the part of Howard County that Calvin represents click here.

Calvin will serve a four-year term as a councilman. At the end of that term, Calvin will run as a candidate against others interested in the seat, to become elected by the citizens of District 2.

Calvin lives in Columbia with his wife and their two young daughters.

What did you want to be when you grew up?... A lawyer or a scientist

Who was your hero?...My parents & Superman

What was your favorite subject in school?...English

What was the best present you ever received?...A birthday pizza party

What was your favorite game or toy?...Nintendo

Do you have a pet? ...not yet

Why did you choose this career?...I wanted to help people and after being a volunteer, firefighter and teacher, this was a great next step.

What do you like best about your job?...I can do a lot of good and help a lot of people.

What is the worst part of your job?...I can't help everyone and everyone does not agree with me.

What would people be most surprised to learn about you?...I used to write poetry and even published some. Although I wasn't a very good student sometimes, I am currently working on my doctorate.

Who is your hero today and why?...I have lots of heroes. Anyone who is doing good things for their community, especially when it is not easy is a hero to me.

What is the best advice that you would share with a child?...Do your best in everything you do and hang in there.
