NEWS RELEASE February 6, 2010 Media Contact: Kevin Enright, Director, Office of Public Information, 410-313-2022County Executive Ulman Declares State of Emergency in Howard County MARRIOTTSVILLE, MD – At approximately 10:30 a.m. today County Executive Ken Ulman declared a State of Emergency in Howard County.
Ulman signed the executive order in the County's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at the James Robey Public Safety Training Center, under advisement from his Emergency Management Director William F. Goddard, III, and the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
This declaration serves several functions including making more state resources available to the County's Emergency Management Division, extending the availability of certain police powers, and better positioning the County to receive federal reimbursement for resources used during this historic snowfall.
"This executive order allows us to better serve the citizens of Howard County, but it also signifies the severity of this storm. It is imperative that residents take this event seriously, and stay off the roads at this time--unless it's a true emergency. At this crucial juncture, all of our efforts must be focused on those real emergencies that occur in a storm like this." |
