Howard County Housing Offers Seminar on “How to Survive the Recession”

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — The Howard County Housing Department will hold a seminar to help families struggling with foreclosure and to educate first-time homebuyers about the home-buying process and learn how to avoid foreclosure. “Homeownership: Securing Your Most Valuable Asset,” will be held on Saturday, March 20 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at 6751 Columbia Gateway Dr., Room 6, Columbia, MD 21045. The seminar is open to the public and free, but anyone interested in attending should register by calling (410) 313-3441.

According to the Howard County Association of Realtors’ Monthly Residential market Report comparing January 2009 to January 2010, the number of settlements in Howard County grew by 25% this year, outpacing the State’s overall growth numbers. “Even as Maryland’s real estate market starts to rebound, many first-time homebuyers still need help understanding their options,” says Stacy Spann, Director of the Howard County Housing Department. “With prices and interest rates still low and national and regional programs still available to help people purchase homes, this is one of the best times to buy.”

This is the third and final seminar in a three-part educational series presented by the Howard County Housing Department. The two earlier seminars featured Jim Harris of Consumer Credit Counseling Services and focused on how to create and live within a budget and how to develop a savings plan. Those seminars are currently available to view in their entirety online at www.HoCoHousing.com. If you are unable to attend the March 20 seminar, it will be available online beginning March 22.
